Customs
Here is a collection of work from several talented members of megomuseum.com.

Below are some pics of customs I own. Some I made myself,
some I worked on with others,
some were made by other talented customizers altogether.
I enjoy the most working with others, and do very few pieces totally alone,
so it's only fair I give credit where credit is due.
After each set of pics is a description of who did what and how it came to be.
If anyone mentioned has a website look for the link on my homepage.
Carded Dunsels

I can't say enough great things about the work James does on his Trek sculpts. Each one amazes me more.
James kind of made me a customizer for hire, although I doubt on purpose. My first bought custom was the Khan head he sculpted. I had to have it although I didn't have any real custom interest at the time. Problem, no Khan clothes were out there. I asked my wife to make me one, and while she said she would, weeks went by. I bought the material for her, and still, weeks went by. Eventually I raided her sewing box, and armed with a jumpsuit pattern Cory Wood made, started teaching myself to sew. Man that first suit came out rough! I still have it. It's in the pic below behind Kirk and luckily you can't see it. I showed this suit to James and he liked it enough to ask me to make him one. I did, and he spread the word. I started making Khan suits for others. Next, James released Kor, and armed with new confidence in my ability to sew (I still didn't have a clue what I was doing) I set out to make a custom Klingon outfit. James was really uninterested in it at first, going with the original mego suit, but later changed his mind. At that point we started working together on these officially.. James would show me what he was working on, and I would attempt to dress it. Marta was the first and with the exception of the occasional custom, like Decker, who doesn't require custom clothes, we've been at it ever since. James does the heads and paints, I dress them. The above carded customs were completed with the help of Chad Gordy from Mego Mayhem, who created the dead on custom card work and really made the pieces look off the shelf.
Here they are closer up.

And on to some other stuff...

WBK Gang- Corny, I know, but hey I loved this show back in the day. The heads I shrunk from the Mattel vintage figures. The clothes are mostly CTVT parts.
Taylor & Brent- Adapted heads from an old "nameless" megohead. I painted and made the clothes such as they are.
Uncle Jessie- The 2005 MegoMeet exclusive figure. Done mostly by Doc Mego, I just added the hat.

Cheetah- Head by Ron Peritore. Paints by me and the suit from Paul and Austin at Reproheads.
Electro- A Generic Captain America cast that I added a mask to. The suit is Reproheads, and I added the cuffs and the cool Castaway Toys repro boots.
Brainiac- An Ed Nagy adaptaion of a bald Thor head. Reproheads suit. I added the collar and painted the head.
Black Vulcan- Another Ron Peritore head adaptaion. Another Reproheads suit. More Castaway boots.
Miller Batman- I always wanted to do the big hulking Batman from Millers "The Dark Knight Returns". I used a Hulk body, added Dunsel Gorn limbs that I adapted slightly and made the suit, belt, boots and cuffs myself. The head is a shrink of a 9" Batman head that I adapted the ears on to make them shorter.

Han Solo- Georg shrunk this from the vintage 12" figure. I painted it, made the suit, made the holster from paco western belt parts, and added Castaway Toys repro Chips boots.
Leia- Another Georg shrink I painted. I made the suit and made the belt from craft foam. I gotta do something better for the belt eventually.
Luke Jedi- Again with a Georg Shrink. I made the suit, added chips boots and a black gloved chips hand. The saber handle started life as a key chain, and was casted for me by James Brady. The saber blade is a paint brush handle.
Tusken Raider- This head came from Customslab. I painted it, made the ammo belts and the suit.
Belly Shirt Kirk- This is the updated design. I made the first one when I didn't understand material and sewing in general. This is a corrected version.

Talosian- Head shrink by Brian Lietner that I painted. I used a Stooge body for this because a mego body would have been too tall. The necklace is a button sent to me by Derek Richardson to cast and use as a Doctor Fate button. Paul Evans cast it and here I altered it a bit, added some chain, and painted it. Worked decent for the necklace. The suit I made.
Capt. Pike- Shrunk head on a Kirk. One day I'm going to do a Pike shirt for him.
TNG Crew- Something Paul Evans and I worked on. I grabbed a bunch of TNG figures and shrunk the heads for Paul to cast. The Worf and Crusher heads had rooted hair that had to be removed before shrinking leaving them bald. Enter James Brady who lent his sculpting skills to create sculpted hair. Paul cast them up, I painted them, and we were left with a bunch of naked TNG figures. We enlisted the aid of Cory Wood, who did the design of the silk screened suits, and armed with knowledge from David Lee at Notdolls.com on the silk screening process, we had them printed. The metal com badges were made for us by James Brady.
Uhura- Another head shrink, but more accurate than mego Uhura. Otherwise, it IS mego Uhura.

Nurse Chapel- Another head shrink. Me on acetone, Paul on casting. Brian Lietner made the suit on this one, and I really think it's perfect.
Koloth- Brian Lietner did a head shrink of Trelane. Since the same actor plaid both characters, I decided to try a little sculpting job, something that I'm not good at. I removed the hair, resulpted it, added the beard, sideburns, and altered the eyebrows to make Koloth. The suit is the same one I make for the Dunsel Klingons. Tribbles provided by Cory Wood.
Saurian- I was proud of myself for completing my Dunsel collection at one point and told this to James. A few days later I got this head in the mail with a note that said "NOW you have a complete Dunsel collection". James made this for a customer and at the time there had only been one sent out. This is the second. Saurian was never in TOS, although mentioned a lot, so I wasn't sure what to do for clothes. He was dressed as Spock for a year before I finally decided to do something. I decided to go the route mego did with the Trek aliens and make something really tacky in a 60's sci fi kind of way, and this is what I came up with. Again, using the "fate" button provided by Derek.
Prof. Bergman- How could Mego overlook Bergman!? He had to be done. Bill Stevenson shrunk and cast this head and I painted it. I had done some 1999's suits when I first started from some really thick material and was never happy with it. Finally I found this stuff and it's pretty close to Mego material. Technically the 1999's suits are a very light gray, but since Palitoy/Mego suits were made white, I wanted to match them, so came up with this. Repro belt and comlock are from Doc Mego.
Dr. Russell- Again, how could they not have made this? I shrunk this one and Paul cast. I painted and was again faced with what to do about the suit. Russell has a white sleeve on the show. Hmm... I needed to make a contrasting sleeve, but keep the suit white to match the original figures. I decided to do a little "mego-logic" and reverse the suit, keeping it white to match the originals, and using the gray to contrast on the sleeve. Another set of Doc Mego belt and comlocks used here.

Darth Vader- Paul mentioned to me he was casting a Vader head and I had to have it. When I got it, it was a perfect cast, glass smooth and all the detail just perfect. Of course what to do for the suit? Lots of hard plastic on Vader and not something I could figure out how to replicate. Paul and I went back and forth on how we could do this. I ended up using vinyl for the chest piece and a repro Doc Mego Mugato belt. A Chips body for the black hands, and a Doc repro black jumper for the base of the suit. I sculpted blocks for the belt and chest, and Paul created stickers for the chest box and belt blocks. Very mego looking use of stickers by Paul. I added some under robes and a cape but he was still not complete. Enter James again, who sculpted a lightsaber handle which I added a red paintbrush handle to. Klingon boots finish him off.
Obi-wan Kenobi- Vader had to have someone to duel. The head on the one picture is a GI Joe head cast by David Lee. I have since replaced it with a vintage 12" Kenobi head shrunk to scale by Georg Hagedorn. The suit I designed and sewed.
Stormtrooper- Ugh! I couldn't figure out what to do with this guy. Paul cast this head, and I painted it, but it sat for a year. What to do for armor? Sculpt it? Man what a pain! I ended up buying one of the new 12" troopers and cutting the armor down. It kind of works although he looks a little fat. I used hydrospan and shrunk the 12" trooper blaster and recast to complete him.
Snake Plisscan- There are a lot of talented sculptors working in the 12" scale. I bought this head from one of them and shrunk if for personal use for this custom. I used a fabric marker on a white DM jumper for the pants, the top of a black DM jumper for the shirt, and a brown Fonz jacket with the vinyl pealed off for the coat. Klingon boots finish him off.
Logan 5- This is one I bought. Brian Heiler and Sean Sanson made this. When I saw it I had to have one. Just perfectly mego!

Enik- From The Land of the Lost comes this excellent custom. Made totally by John Schipper. He's a perfect custom. Suit made of silicone rubber, it's amazing what John can do with it. The table is excellent as well.
Sleestack- Once I had Enik, I had to have the Sleestack as well. Another John Schipper work of art I had nothing to do with.
Lagoon Creature- Third in my John Schipper silicone suit set. Man what a work, this one. He made this and put it on ebay. I had to have it.
Karate Kid- Again, John at work. He adapted and cast this head for mego scale. When I saw it, I told him how my first date with my wife had been to see that movie. (not that we are big Karate Kid fans, just that was all that was playing at the time!) A few days later John sent me this head as a gift to me and my wife. I painted him to finish him up and stuck him on a Lion Rock body with an AJ Karate suit. Thanks John, my wife thinks this one is cool.

John Wayne- Another head I adapted to mego size from a nice 12" original head sculpt. AJ Army suit for the war movie version, and some odds and ends for the western movie version. I still need to find a gunbelt to fit a mego fat body.
Dirty Harry- Again, an original 12" head adapted. Coat from a DM Bruce Wayne suit, pants from a black DM suit, and an altered Trek Scotty shirt. Thanks to Cory Wood for the .44 magnum.
Indiana Jones- The first Dunsel non-trek head. Well, the first I know about anyway. James sculpted this, but never released it because he wants to redo it one day. I thought it fine as is, so James let me have one. Pa Walton pants and Chips shirt is what he's wearing. I made the belt/holster, bag and coat. James found the hat somewhere and the material for the whip.
Phantom of the Opera- My favorite monster. David Lee adapted this to mego and I painted him in black and white tones. The suit is a Flattword Drac suit.

Two Face- A Doc Mego Flatt head I painted, and wearing what was once a repro DM Bruce Wayne suit. I painted the suit with fabric paint.
Captain Marvel- Troy Younger sculpted this head and the man has a talent for capturing that filmation look. I painted it, and John Schipper did the awesome threadwork. My favorite custom suit. The cape is incredible. John, you need to do more sewing!
Commish. Gordon- Another DM Flatt head I painted. Used the shirt from a DM suit, Pa Walton pants and a coat I made with a Cory Wood pattern.
Hal Jordan GL- You gotta have Hal! This is a shrunk head and a notdolls silkscreen suit. Very mego suit. All I had to do was paint him up.
DareDevil- Doc Mego red jumper, shorts and boots. But what makes this is the Cory Wood sculpted head. Man that guy has talent! Cast by David Lee and he also made the emblem. All I had to do was paint him, make the belt and call him done.

Dr. Doom- DM Flatt head I painted. A knight suit is the base and I made the vest and cape. Yeah, I know, the chain is gold and the buttons are yellow. Still looking for the right gold buttons to use. The boots are knight boots. The gloves are Paul Evans resin casted gloves I painted to match. It's not easy casting boots and gloves in resin, but they look great painted and Paul did an excellent job.
Nightwing- The suit is from Austin and Paul at reproheads.com. I love the head. Troy Younger sculpted that, I just painted it.
Captain America- Done right! Cory Wood, from the UK sculpted this Cap head. Ironic, eh? It's a fantasic head cast by David Lee. Cory and DL teamed up to design and print the silk screen suit. The boots on him are repro Doc Mego red pirate boots. Another one that just needed some paint.
SW Spiderman- A mego cast Spiderman head by Paul Evans, painted black by with. Put it on a Chips body with a DM black jumper and a notdolls Spidey logo and it's a quick and easy one.
Antman- This is a total notdolls custom I bought complete. I didn't know who Antman was, but when Cory Wood sculpts I pay attention. I loved the look and David Lee finished it off really nice. A sweet custom.

Red Skull 1- Shrunk head cast by Paul Evans. I added paints, and AJ Army suit, chips boots and the armband. Paul also made the sticker that goes on the armband.
Red Skull 2- After I finished my first Skull, Cory Wood came out with this original sculpt. David Lee casted the head and put together this version of Skull. When I saw it at megocon, I liked the look, so had to make one myself. The armband is a notdolls cloth emblem and a DM jumper was used. I just had to paint and add the scarf.
Nick Fury- Another one based off a notdolls custom. David Lee made one of these and when I saw it, had to get the kit from him. He knew I wanted one, so he presented me with the head he adapted from a Mr. F head. I painted it, and added all the trim to a DM jumper. The leg piece and weapons are from some generic army/police figures. Cory sent me a bunch of this stuff and it comes in handy!
Alan Scott GL- DM Flatt head I painted. I made the cape and pants. Paul Evans made the emblem.
Early Daredevil- When I bought my first Daredevil, David Lee sent me an extra head from his seconds bin. A perfectly good head that just needed one bubble filled. I always wanted to do this with it, and when I saw that Brian Leitner had made this suit, I ordered one. Add the belt and holster I made, and a notdolls cloth emblem and another simple DD custom is done.

Firestorm- I'm going to quote
from Paul Evan's site on this one because he summed up the process so well.
-- from Paul's site MegoOrionHomeworld.
"In December of 2002, Dave McCormick and I were talking
over how to build a Mego JLA. We were amazed with a picture of Scott Metzger's
custom JLA and just couldn't figure out how we would do several of those heroes.
A few days later, I recalled the silkscreened Flash and GL suits of David Lee
and thought perhaps we could do the same for Firestorm. Dave and I talked it
over and he knew that Cory Wood (Coz) had designed suits for David Lee before. I
told Dave I might be able to sculpt a head if we could get a suit designed by
Coz and printed by David Lee.
We talked off and on for the next year and by the end of 2003 we had him done!
This head was sculpted by me and cast by me. Dave McCormick did the painting.
Cory Wood designed the suit (in England) and e-mailed it to Dave McCormick (in Ohio). Dave approved the design and sent it to David Lee (in Missouri) for printing. After printing, the suits returned to Dave Mc who sewed this suit for me. (90% of the suits were shipped to Anthony McElveen in Louisiana to sew for Mego Museum Members.)
Lastly, he was built on a T2 Scarecrow body (had to get those yellow hands!) and was completed with yellow repro boots.
He took us a year (off and on) to complete and there were some sleepless nights perhaps, but in the end he was well worth it. Dave and I are pretty proud of him and we're glad to have been able to help some other big Firestorm fans have one as well!"
Ghost Rider- Another Cory Wood sculpt and David Lee cast. I painted him and used clothes from my junk box. He was okay looking. What makes him ( besides the kick butt sculpt) is the chopper. Paul Clare sent me this and it really makes the custom. GR has to have a bike! Yeah, okay, it's not accurate to the comic, but I still think it looks cool.
Hawkman- When I saw Troy Youngers new Hawkman sculpt I went nuts for it. Great look for Hawkman! I painted the head, put together the suit from Doc jumpers, shorts and boots, then added the trim. Paul made me the emblem, and that left the wings. I bought some furry looking white angel wings for him and they didn't get it. Brian Winchell told me I needed to go gray. I trimmed at the wings, reshaped them and spray painted them with primer and am much happier with the look. Now if I could just find another set of those wings to finish off the Hawkgirl custom Jim Hampton made me!
Mr. Freeze- This looks like no Freeze in particular, just a version I made up because I had the parts. It is a DM scientist head. Paul Evans has these cool megohead sized bubbles that are perfect for Freeze, so he sent me one. The suit is an AJ fire suit I altered slightly, added tubes and a police vest from that pile of stuff Cory sent me. Just added some silver paint and some tubing.

Martian Manhunter- Brian Winchell shrunk this head. Paul cast again. I painted the head and body with a green spray that was made for plastic model cars, made the cape and trim, then called on Doc Mego. I bought the shorts and asked him to cast me a pair of pirate boots to match the shorts. He nailed the color match.
Moon Knight- Another DM Flatt head, with a DM repro jumper. I painted repro boots white, added cuffs, fashioned and emblem and called on Paul Evans again. He casted the Conan belt in resin for me.
Doc Ock- Still a work in progress. In the pic he has a DM Flatt head which is more modern. I used a DM jumper and added trim more like the classic Ock. He now has a Jim Hampton Ock head that looks more like classic Ock and I will eventually update the pic. The arms are made of painted flextube and the claws are something I sculpted, poorly I might add.
Lex Luthor- Bald Thor and a Brian Lietner suit made this one way easy.

Punisher- Another notdolls kit. David Lee adapted this modern Bruce Wayne head, made the emblem and cast the belt pieces which Cory Wood sculpted. I painted more of those cop parts Cory sent, painted the head and put it all together. Later, Mike Farance sent me this cool leather coat for him that really sets him of to me.
George Reeves Superman- After pleading forever, Mike Farance found someone to sculpt him George Reeves. Cory Wood took care of it and what a great job he did. So great I wanted two. The series was both in black and white and later color, so I made both. The color version has a DM jumper and shorts. I made the belt, cape and painted the head. Note, the black and white version is not a photoshop trick. I had to make that one from the ground up. I painted the body and head, made the jumper, shorts, belt and cape. Painted the boots. David Lee made the cloth emblems for both versions.
Flash- You gotta have a Flash, right? My original flash had a DM Flatt head, and while I normally am happy with those, I didn't like the Flash head. I wasn't thrilled with the Captain America versions either. Eventaully I saw this head. Dana Shaw adapted a mego Bruce Wayne head and sent it to Chris Johnson for casting. To me, it looks more like Flash. The suits is a DM red jumper and the emblem is a David Lee cloth emblem. The finishing touches were provided by Ron Peritore. He made the belt for me out of a coffee can lid and it looks factory. He later sent me the cuff trim made from a yellow marker cap. They really look good and are much better than the crappy trim I had on there before.
TV Hulk- Cory Wood strikes again! He sculpted this head and sent it to David Lee for casting. I painted it and added arm and leg extensions made by James Brady for his Gorn conversion kit. I had to sand off the claws, but they work well for old Lou.

GA Flash- I always wanted to do this. Paul Evans casted the Mr. F head and also made the emblem. I got the helmet from Doc Mego. The suit was made by Brian Lietner.
Hobgoblin- I got this head from Jason at gaga4toyz, but he has since partnered with notdolls, so the head can be found there. I made the vest and cape. Paul Evans cast me the boots before Doc was having them made in china. They are resin. Actually, when I need to paint boots I like Paul's resin boots because they paint much nicer. Much easier to match the cowl paint this way.
J.J.J. - I put the call out for a JJJ head. Austin Hough answered. He cast this and I found out later that it is a Phil Noble sculpt. It looks great though. I wish Phil was still sculpting! He based it on a Conan head. I did the paint and just added Pa Walton pants and a DM shirt/tie.
Oliver Queen, Green Arrow AE- John Schipper removed the mask from a Green Arrow head and resculpted the eyes. I added the paint, and some clothes from the junk box to make an easy AE for GA, one of my favorite characters.
Greatest American Hero- This is a Sean Sanson sculpted head provided to me by Brian Heiler. Brian also loaned me the GAH logo art and Paul Evans made it real by printing it. I did the paints and trim. Also fashioned a cape.
And of course the pride of my custom collection...

My Michael Farence Enterprise Bridge Stations.

You have to see these in person to believe them. Mike Farance is truly an artist with cardboard and exacto! The detail on these are amazing and take him hours to complete. These are accurate beyond belief. I started with a chair, later was lucky enough to get an upgrade, then the stunning command console. Recently I got the Pike version of the Captains Chair, and the most impressive piece of all, Spock's Library Station. I'm constantly blown away by how great looking these are and am lucky to have them. Really adds to the old Trek collection!
